Gujarat Assembly polls: Sitting BJP MLA Kesarisinh Solanki joins AAP

Prior to the Gujarat Assembly elections, the BJP suffered a setback when MLA Kesarisinh Solanki joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

A day after the governing party unveiled its initial list of candidates for the 2019 elections, Solanki, the incumbent BJP MLA for Gujarat’s Kheda district’s Matar Assembly seat, switched to the Arvind Kejriwal-led group. Gopal Italia, the president of the Gujarat AAP, was notified of the development.

“Kesarisinh Solanki ji, a well-liked, tenacious, and brave Matar Vidhan Sabha MLA, has now joined the Aam Aadmi Party after being moved by Arvind Kejriwal’s straightforward politics. Kesarisinh ji is cordially welcomed to the Aam Aadmi Party. We will work together to establish an honest administration in Gujarat “Late on Thursday night, Italia tweeted something.

In lieu of Solanki, who won the seat twice in 2014 and 2017, the BJP ran Kalpesh Parmar.

In preparation for the 2018 Gujarat Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday unveiled the first list of candidates for 160 of the 182 constituencies, including 14 women on it.

The BJP leaders released this first list for the bulk of the constituencies during a news conference held in Delhi, where the State’s Assembly elections are slated for December 1 and 5.

There are 69 candidates who have already been on the list of 160, 14 women, 13 members of the scheduled caste, and 24 members of the scheduled tribe.

Hardik Patel, a former Congress leader who defected and joined the BJP, has also been given a ticket by the ruling party to run in the Viramgam constituency.

Other former Congress leaders who switched over to the BJP include Pradyumansinh Jadeja, Ashvin Kotwal, and Jawahar Chavda (who served as a cabinet minister in Vijay Rupani’s ministry). These individuals received tickets from the Manavadar, Khedbrahma, and Abdasa constituencies, respectively.

Senior BJP figures like Vijay Rupani, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Nitin Patel, and Pradipsinh Jadeja announced on Wednesday night that they would not be running in the elections. They also informed higher authorities in Delhi of their decision.

Gujarat Chief Minister will run from the Ghatlodia seat.

The state has been ruled by the BJP for the past 27 years, making it a BJP stronghold.

The BJP is running for reelection in Gujarat, where the state has long been their stronghold.

On December 1 and 5, there will be two separate rounds of voting. On December 8, which is also the day of the announcement of the results for Himachal Pradesh, the votes will be counted.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is making attempts to perform well in the elections while Congress is attempting to unseat the BJP.
