The byelection for Jalandhar Lok Sabha, one of Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha districts, was called when incumbent Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary died on January 14 of this year after suffering a heart collapse while participating in the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

According to authorities, all EVMs and VVPAT machines were held in the’strong room’ after the polling, and three layers of protection were erected.
