Manipur Police Rescues Kidnapping Victims, Arrests Suspects For Illegal Possession Of Drugs And Ammunitions

Manipur Police rescued abduction victim and arrested five individuals involved in the kidnapping on April 8. Following the arrest, the Manipur Police also put a post on their social media platform X disclosing the names of the five arrested.

The Manipur police rescued a kidnapping victim and arrested two individuals involved in the abduction and extortion case on Monday, April 8. A press release issued by the officials stated that the arrested persons were identified as Md Juma Khan, 34, and Ram Bahadur Khadkar, 44, from Imphal East.

In a similar case, the Manipur Police rescued another abduction victim and arrested five individuals involved in the kidnapping on April 8. Following the arrest, the Manipur Police also put a post on their social media platform X disclosing the names of the five arrested. They are Khoirom Sanathoi Meitei, 23, Thokchom Mothomar Meitei, 18, Laisharam Ahendrajit Meitei, 31, Phandom Ango Singh, 18, Haorokcham Chitranjan Singh, 31.

The press release also stated that the situation in the state was under control in the last 24 hours. The security forces had conducted rigorous search operations and area domination in vulnerable hill and valley districts. According to the release, during these operations in Champhai Hill, Imphal East, they seized one 22 Rifle, 39 live ammunitions, seven blank cartridges, 28 ILLUM JMK ammunition, 20 MK 12 T ammunition, 15 HE Hand Grenades, seven tube launching, one magazine box, one walkie talkie set with charger, one Triple plastic blue. In Bishnupur District, Manipur Police also arrested two suspects, Md Nurhaman alias Nurahaman and Ibem from Terakhongsangbi and confiscated suspected Opium weighing 5.587 kgs and brown powder weighing 1.006 kgs, believed to be brown sugar or heroin, from the suspects’ possession.

Further, the release also asserted that the Manipur Police also arrested two more individuals, identified as Khaying Longvah, aged 44, from Ukhrul, and Ngahanyui Kashung, aged 37, from Kamjong, in Khabeisoi, Imphal East District. Suspected contraband heroin powder weighing approximately 1 kg and a car were seized from their possession.

A total of 317 and 269 vehicles have been ensured movement along NH-37 and NH-02, respectively, carrying essential items. Strict security measures are in place at vulnerable locations, with security convoys provided in sensitive stretches to facilitate safe vehicle movement.

130 checkpoints have been set up across Manipur, including in both hill and valley districts, resulting in the detention of 288 individuals for various violations.
