According to the State Election Commission, Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) total voting percentage for all 250 wards was about 45% as of 4 p.m.
The overall voter turnout for the Delhi civic elections on Sunday was only about 30%, which could be considered a lukewarm response to the AAP and BJP’s high-pitched campaign. This is an improvement from an even worse turnout of 18% up until noon and 9% up until 10.30 am. The polls opened at 8 am and close at 5:30 pm.
This year’s election for the 250 MCD wards saw a fierce three-way battle between the governing BJP, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Congress. Earlier today, the voting process began among strict security measures in the national capital.
The state poll commission had previously said that more than 1.45 crore people were eligible to vote in the civic elections, and that 1,349 candidates from various parties are running this year.
The state election panel also stated that it had established 13,638 polling places for local elections, noting that a sizable workforce of election officials and security organisations had worked hard to make the essential poll preparations.
Meanwhile, the votes will be counted on December 7.
