Saudi Crown Prince and S. Jaishankar meet; talks on bilateral relations

S. Jaishankar is making his first trip to the Kingdom in his capacity as minister of external affairs.

As bilateral ties continued to be a priority, foreign minister S. Jaishankar met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud on Sunday in Jeddah. On Saturday, Jaishankar began his first trip to Saudi Arabia in his capacity as external affairs minister.

Jaishankar tweeted that he was “honoured to call on HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah this evening,” adding that he had conveyed the warm greetings of Prime Minister @narendramodi and informed the prince of the development of their bilateral relations.

Prior to S Jaishankar’s visit, a foreign ministry statement had emphasised how India’s ties with Saudi Arabia “have strengthened significantly over the past few years, including in political, security, energy, trade, investment, health, food security, cultural, and defence fields.” The document emphasised that “the top leadership of both countries remained in close contact even during the Covid pandemic.”
