Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, visited the Shahid Beheshti terminal at Chabahar port in Iran on Saturday to assess the development of port’s infrastructure.
As per the statement, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also delivered six mobile harbour cranes to the Indian Ports Global Chabahar Free Trade Zone (IPGCFTZ) at the port in an effort to boost the potential of Chabahar port.
In order to tour Chabahar Port and take part in bilateral discussions with Iranian Ministers, Sonowal set off on an official visit to Iran and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
Gaddam Dharmendra, India’s ambassador to Iran, accompanied the Union Minister. Iranian team was headed during the launch by Dr. Ali Akbar Safaee, Deputy Minister and Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization, Iran.
Dr. Ali Akbar Safaee and Sarbananda Sonowal held a productive discussion about the expansion of Iranian and Indian port and marine cooperation. Both sides of the delegation talked about ways to open up commerce between nations in Central Asia and those in South Asia, ASEAN, and even countries in the Far East like Japan and Korea.
Sonowal emphasised the importance Chabahar port may play in minimising travel time, expense, and distance. A joint technical committee was established to ensure the port’s efficient operation. The future plan of action for port development was also discussed at the conference.
