SPG Director Arun Kumar Sinha Passes Away at 61

Sinha was a seasoned IPS Officer from the 1987 Kerala cadre and has held the position of SPG Director since 2016. Remarkably, he had recently been granted an extension in his service.

Arun Kumar Sinha, the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away at a Gurugram hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, according to an official statement.

At the age of 61, Sinha had been grappling with health issues for the past few months. He was a seasoned IPS Officer from the 1987 Kerala cadre and has held the position of SPG Director since 2016. Remarkably, he had recently been granted an extension in his service.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) was initially established in 1985 with the primary objective of providing close security coverage to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and their immediate family members. However, its mandate was subsequently revised, and the SPG now exclusively provides security protection for the incumbent Prime Minister.

Throughout his distinguished career, Arun Kumar Sinha has served in various key roles, including DCP Commissioner, Range IG, Intelligence IG, and Administration IG in Thiruvananthapuram, showcasing his dedication and expertise in the field of law enforcement.
