Authorities recovered both bodies from the affected spot. The rain caused major problems in multiple areas including Palace Colony and Zonal Hospital. Hundreds of vehicles got trapped under mud and debris. Panic spread across the city as residents spent the night in fear. Rescue teams continued clearing work as officials remained on the ground throughout the night.
On Mandi flash flood, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu says, “It rained very heavily in Mandi at night. The heavy rains in Mandi have caused heavy damage to houses, especially near the Jail Road. We learned about the news of people being buried. Additionally, we received information about approximately 2 casualties in the incident. The situation is being monitored. All the teams of DM, NDRF and SDRF have been given directions. Flash floods wreaked havoc on Jail Road and surrounding areas in Mandi city, turning streets into dangerous rivers in a matter of minutes. Torrential rainfall led to sudden water surges, with heavy rocks, mud, and debris crashing down from nearby hillsides. The force of the floodwaters swept away parked vehicles, broke down boundary walls, and damaged several homes in its path. Amidst the destruction and panic, the local community showed remarkable courage and unity. Residents came out of their homes, helping one another evacuate, rescuing trapped individuals, and guiding the elderly and children to safer ground. Casualties have been reported, along with that, many houses have been damaged…We have set up a relief camp in Vipasha Sadan.
