Neeraj Chopra, a star javelin thrower from India and an Olympic gold medalist, made history on Thursday by becoming the first Indian to ever win the prestigious Diamond League trophy, an elite athletics competition. Chopra recorded his best throw of 88.44 metres to secure one of his career’s biggest victories.
In his second try, he made his best throw of 88.44 metres.
Neeraj Chopra’s initial effort was ruled a “no throw,” therefore things did not go well. Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic took the lead at the same time with a throw of 84.15 metres.
With a fantastic throw of 88.44 metres on his second try, Neeraj re-entered the race and raced to the top of the leaderboard. He was being pursued by Vadlejch, who had an 86.00 m throw.
Chopra won the javelin throw event in the Lausanne Diamond League earlier in August with the best throw of 89.08 metres.
