Jharkhand Police ADP on Tuesday announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the barbaric assassination of Dumka Class 12 girl Ankita on August 23 by a youngster who was tormenting her for declining his proposal and eventually burned her alive.

“The SIT led by the Superintendent of Police has been formed to investigate the case.” Given the gravity of the situation, the case would be overseen by the SP,” said ML Meena, ADG HQ, Jharkhand Police.

Meena further stated that two suspects have been apprehended and that an investigation into the event is being conducted from all perspectives.

Meanwhile, a 10-member investigation team led by CID DSP Sandeep Kumar Gupta arrived to Ankita’s home. CID, the Forensic Science Laboratory, and the Finger Print Bureau were all represented on the team.
“We are gathering evidence from the spot that will be submitted to the court later.” “We were summoned here yesterday,” CID DSP Sandeep Kumar Gupta said.

Ankita, a resident of Dumka’s Jaruadih neighbourhood, had been tormented for several months by Shahrukh, who also resided in the same area. He had obtained her phone number from someplace and was pressuring her to call him and marry him, according to IANS.

Despite the fact that Ankita’s family members spoke to Shahrukh about it, he continued to harass her. He contacted Ankita on the night of August 22 and threatened to murder her.

The next morning, while everyone else was sleeping, Shahrukh poured petrol through the window on Ankita, who was sleeping alone in a room and lit her on fire. Hearing Ankita’s cries, her family awoke to see Shahrukh rushing about with a can of gasoline.

The person was first brought to Dumka’s Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in serious condition, suffering from 90 percent burns. Despite her health, she gave testimony to a magistrate, and the accused, Shahrukh, was detained later that day.

Ankita was subsequently referred to Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) for further care. However, after fighting for her life at RIMS for five days, she died on Sunday night from her injuries. On Monday morning, she was cremated at Dumka.

Ankita’s last journey from Dumka’s Jaruadih neighbourhood was heavily guarded on Monday morning. Thousands of people who attended Ankita’s burial demanded that her perpetrator be executed. Anil Singh, her grandpa, started the fire. The funeral was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla and Superintendent of Police Amber Lakkar.

The second defendant in the case, Naeem alias Chhotu Khan, was detained and imprisoned on Tuesday.
