Family members of a nine-year-old Dalit child from Rajasthan who died on Saturday in an Ahmedabad hospital say that he was cruelly thrashed by a teacher for drinking water from a pot reserved for higher caste people.

Massive protests are being staged today, August 16, 2022, expressing their anger over the death of a Dalit nine-year-old over getting beaten by a teacher for drinking water from a pot reserved for higher caste people.

According to police, the accused instructor, Chail Singh (40), has been arrested and a complaint has been filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST Act.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot denounced the occurrence and stated that the issue has been assigned to a Case Officer for expedited inquiry.

“It is terrible that a pupil died as a result of an assault by a teacher in a private school in Jalore’s Sayla police station area. A complaint has been registered against the accused teacher under provisions of the murder and SC/ST Act,” Gehlot stated on Twitter.

The incident occurred on July 20 at a private school in Surana village in Rajasthan’s Jalore district, when the teacher reportedly beat up the youngster for touching a jug of water in the classroom, according to the police.

He was transported to the local hospital at first but was subsequently transferred to Udaipur, where he was treated for almost a week. He was subsequently brought to Ahmedabad, but his health deteriorated and he died on Saturday as a result of his injuries.

According to family relatives, the youngster suffered major damage to his face and ears.

Rajendra Rathore, the deputy leader of the opposition in Rajasthan, criticised the event and sought stern punishment for the teacher.

Compensation of 5 lakh has been granted from the chief minister’s relief fund for the deceased’s relatives.
