NIRF Ranking 2025 Live Updates: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 rankings today, September 4. The annual rankings assess higher education institutions across India using parameters like Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research, Graduation Outcomes, and Outreach.
Institutes are ranked under multiple categories, including Overall, Universities, Colleges, Engineering, Management, Medical, Law, Pharmacy, and Innovation. Last year, IIT Madras secured the top spot in the ‘Overall’ category, while IISc Bengaluru led in ‘Universities.’ The spotlight now is on who clinches the top positions in 2025.

The NIRF 2025 rankings are based on parameters including Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach & Inclusivity, and Peer Perception, with weightage varying across categories.
In the Overall category of the NIRF 2025 rankings, IIT Madras secured the top spot, followed by IISc Bengaluru, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur. AIIMS Delhi, JNU, and BHU also featured in the top 10, reflecting excellence across diverse domains.
IIT Madras has reaffirmed its dominance in the NIRF 2025 rankings, securing the No. 1 position in the Overall category for the seventh consecutive year and in Engineering for the tenth year in a row.
The institute also rose to the top in the Innovation category, after placing second last year, and clinched the first spot in the newly introduced Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) category.
The NIRF 2025 rankings were unveiled today in a ceremony attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa (Member Secretary, NBA), Prof. T. G. Sitharam (Chairman, AICTE), and Dr. Sukanta Majumdar (MoS for Education).
