Hesashi Takeuchi, managing director of Maruti Suzuki, on Sunday praised the Tata-Airbus project, saying India has a huge market potential.
A growing Indian market offers a lot of business opportunities, and it is a wise decision for any company abroad to enter the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki MD Hisashi Takeuchi said on the sidelines of the foundation stone laying ceremony of C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing facility in Gujarat’s Vadodara.
The Vadodara facility for the Tata-Airbus consortium happens to be the first aircraft manufacturing facility in the private sector and would build the C-295 aircraft. The move aims to modernize the Indian Air Force Fleet. The project cost is estimated to be around 22,000 crores.
In celebration of the 70th anniversary of India-Japan relations, Maruti Suzuki’s MD said, ‘We are honoring 70 years of partnership. Progress has been made between the two nations for centuries. The fusion of these two cultures is only expected to increase.’
In addition, Hesashi Takeuchi expressed optimism about the Gujarat bullet train project. ‘The Gujarat bullet train project is an extremely significant undertaking. It’s a national project that Japan is actively promoting. I hope it succeeds tremendously,’ he said.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, Takeuchi said, ‘Two months ago, in Gujarat, Suzuki Motor Corporation celebrated 40 years in India with this setup, and what we can say is that this was a perfect combination of Japanese working culture and Indian working culture.” In the future, I hope this kind of good match will enhance the growth of the industry.’
Further discussing Suzuki’s plans in India, he said, ‘We have expanded our Gujarat operations with EV production and a battery factory. In addition, we have already begun building our new factory in Harayana’s Kharkhoda.’
