US President Joe Biden congratulated India on its 75th anniversary of independence, saying the US and India were “indispensible partners” who would continue to collaborate to address global challenges in the years ahead.
In a statement issued by the White House, Biden said, “As people around the world, including nearly four million proud Indian-Americans, celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence on August 15, the United States joins the people of India to honour its democratic journey, guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth and non-violence.”
Biden’s statement emphasised the importance of India and the United States’ shared interests. “This year also marks the 75th anniversary of our great democracies’ diplomatic relations. The United States and India are indispensable partners, and the United States-India Strategic Partnership is based on our shared commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity “Biden added.
Biden also praised the Indian-American community in the United States for its contributions to making the country stronger. “Our people’s strong bonds strengthen our partnership even more. The vibrant Indian-American community in the United States has helped to make our country more innovative, inclusive, and powerful “Biden stated.
“I am confident that our two democracies will continue to stand together in the years ahead to defend the rules-based order; foster greater peace, prosperity, and security for our people; advance a free and open Indo-Pacific; and jointly address the challenges we face around the world,” the statement concluded.
On Monday, India will mark the 75th anniversary of its independence, commemorating the end of British colonial rule in 1947.
