A member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Monday travelled to Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, the scene of the alleged murder and rape of two young Dalit sisters, whose bodies were discovered hanging from a tree.

The NCSC member stated that the accused will face stern punishment after taking stock of the circumstances. Later, Bala departed for the district’s administrative centre where she would attend a review meeting with the District Magistrate, police officers, and other administrative staff members.

Rahul Gandhi also took it to Twitter to mention the horrendous crime.

The sisters’ bodies were discovered in the area hanging from a tree on September 15.

Six persons were detained by the Uttar Pradesh police in relation to the event.
The NCSC issued a notice to the authorities requesting an action taken report on Thursday after taking suo motu notice of media reports regarding the sisters’ deaths (ATR).

Prashant Kumar, additional director general (ADG) for law and order, stated: “During a Thursday early confrontation with the neighbourhood Nighasan police and SWAT squad in the area of the Nighasan police station, Junaid, Suhail, and Hafeezur Rehman were allegedly taken into custody. The other suspects, Karimuddin, and Chhotu Gautam were also taken into custody after being questioned.”

Israel, the son of the primary accused Junaid, was found to possess a 315-bore handgun, two live rounds, and an empty shell.

ADG Kumar said that as soon as the incident reached the police’s attention late in the evening, a team sped off to the scene.

In addition to the local police, IG Range Laxmi Singh from Lucknow was brought to the scene right away. Under the direction of SP, Lakhimpur, Sanjeev Sinha, prompt action was taken, and raids were carried out at several locations to apprehend the offenders, he added.

The Indian Penal Code’s Sections 302 and 376 as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) have been utilised to charge the accused.

After the news spread, protests erupted, with the deceased father calling for justice for his daughters and declaring that the “culprits should be executed.” In addition, he wanted compensation in the amount of Rs. 1 crore and a government post for a member of the family.

The autopsy results showed that both females had been raped and strangled.

The post-mortem of the deceased was video recorded, and all forensic evidence was evaluated before the remains were given to the family for cremation, according to the police.
