The National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the Special NIA Court in Kochi on Tuesday that banned Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders in Kerala had contact with some Islamic State (IS) and Al-Qaeda commanders.
The NIA stated this while requesting additional time to conduct an investigation into the PFI leaders who were detained following the ban. The NIA further claimed that a hidden arm of PFI was preparing a kill list of persons from various communities and that their operations were centered around the PFI headquarters.
NIA further stated that “The Islamic State and Al-Qaeda terrorist groups utilise anti-state and religious terrorist organisations in areas where direct operations are not viable. We have acquired information indicating that PFI leaders in Kerala were in contact with IS and Al-Qaeda commanders. A more thorough study is needed.”
According to the NIA, critical information on PFI’s traitorous activities has been collected. Digital evidence is also crucial.
