SP and RJD team-up: Nominates Jayant Chaudhary jointly for Rajya Sabha polls

Jayant Chaudhary, the leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, will be the joint candidate of the Samajwadi Party and the RLD in the Rajya Sabha elections

Jayant Chaudhary, the leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, will be the joint candidate of the Samajwadi Party and the RLD in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Jayant Chaudhary will be the party’s third candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, which will be conducted on June 10. In Uttar Pradesh, the RLD is a member of the SP-led alliance. Kapil Sibal and Javed Ali had registered their candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections earlier on Wednesday.

Sibal announced last week that he has left the Congress and is running as an independent candidate with the support of Akhilesh Yadav’s SP.

Elections will be held for 57 Rajya Sabha seats across 15 states on 10th June.

Uttar Pradesh will have elections for the most seats, with 11 seats up for grabs.

In the Assembly elections in February-March this year, the RLD, which ran in coalition with the Samajwadi Party, won only eight of the 33 seats on which the party had candidates. However, SP received 111 seats, a major increase from the 47 seats it received in 2017.

The BJP was able to retain power in Uttar Pradesh by winning 255 of the state’s 403 constituencies, with a vote share of 41.29 percent.

Yogi Adityanath is the first Chief Minister to return to power after serving a complete term in the state for 37 years.

Meanwhile, SP has also fielded Dimple Yadav as Lok Sabha candidate from Azamgarh.
