Uttar Pradesh, yesterday, September 12, started its controversial madrasa survey exercise, with a three-member government committee visiting the Islamic religious schools and seeking information on 12 aspects, including their source of funding.
The Yogi government has prepared a format for the survey of unrecognized madrasas in Uttar Pradesh. In this regard, orders have been sent to all district headquarters and reports have been called on 12 points.
Except for finding out madrassas’ source of funding, the survey will also bring to light the number of unrecognized madrasas in a district, the number of students in a madrassa, the complete information about madrassa; the year it was set up, facilities, number of teachers, type of building it runs in, and whether or not the students of these institutes were previously enrolled in some other institutes.
The survey teams are to submit reports to district administration officials by October 5 who will then, by October 10-15, present them to district magistrates. The final reports will be sent to the state government by October 25 by DMs, ending the 46-day exercise.
While the Yogi government has said that the aim of the survey is to gather data to ensure that modern facilities can be provided to students and action can be taken against all those engaged in illegal activities, AIMIM Chief Assaduddin Owaisi has said that it is an attack on the minority group.
