ITV Network & ITV Foundation’s venture ‘We women want’ recently concluded Shakti Awards 2022 where they recognized the women across genres in their contribution to Indian society.

The felicitation ceremony with Shakti awards 2022 went hand-in-hand with the panel discussion. In a panel set of women, we had a discussion surrounding the fashion industry. The panel consisted of Fashion designers- Rina Dhaka, Anjul Bhandari, Kavita Bhartia, and Gurpreet Kaur Sonel.

According to Rina Dhaka, who has helped put Indian fashion in the spotlight internationally, “The fashion business works just as hard as the entertainment sector; we don’t take breaks or holidays since our deadlines are all that matter. I entered the field when we didn’t have a designing firm because, in my father’s words, do fashion to seem lovely for a suitor.”

However, Anjul Bhandari claimed that because our profession is entirely female-oriented, it is a safer place for women. Since no one practises the profession like I do, backstage is also entirely female-oriented. No embroidered man exists. Consequently, it is safer for women. We welcome guys to enter and explore this area, though.

According to Kavita Bhartia, who started off as an entrepreneur stated, “Things have changed, I see a lot more women doing hard work and able to pull off their respective work. When I started in 1989, I was one of the few women who launched a business and was able to sustain it.”

The programme shared the inspirational tales of women who not only spoke their opinions of how it is being a woman but also created doors for other women to follow their goals.
