Orleans Masters 2024: India's Kiran and Malvika Suffer Early Defeats in Opening Round

Kiran, Malvika Bow Out Early at Orleans Masters 2024

After losing their respective opening-round matches, Indian shuttlers Kiran George and Malvika Bansod faced an early departure from the ongoing Orleans Masters 2024 badminton competition. Kiran George lost to Sathish Kumar Karunakaran 21-7, 17-21, 23-21. George had advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinals in the previous Indonesia Masters. Vivien Sandorhazi of Hungary defeated Malvika Bansod 21-10, 21-15. Malvika had previously won the February Azerbaijan International.

In the meantime, Tanya Hemanth and Samiya Imad Farooqui were unable to proceed to the round of 16 in the women’s singles competition. Farooqui lost to Belgian Lianne Tan 21-19, 20-22, 12-21. Hemanth was defeated by Liang Ting-yu of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 21-11. Conversely, Anupama Upadhyaya advanced to the following round with a facile 21-7, 21-5 victory over Kaloyana Nalbantova of Bulgaria. In the women’s doubles division, Meilysa Trias Puspita Sari and Rachel Allessya Rose of Indonesia defeated Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker of India 21-9, 21-20.

To advance to the next round of the mixed doubles, Karunakaran and Aadya Variath defeated Germans Patrick Scheiel and Franziska Volkmann 21-14, 21-18. In the following round, the Indian pair will face off against Chen Cheng-kuan and Hsu Yin-hui of Chinese Taipei. Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh defeated Israeli duo Misha Zilberman and Svetlana Zilberman 21-12, 21-16. In the next round, they will play Jesper Toft and Clara Graverson, a Danish duo.

However, B Sumeeth Reddy and Nelakurihi Sikki Reddy lost to the French duo of Julien Maio and Lea Palermo by 21-17, 19-21, 17-21 in the first round of mixed doubles.
