Despite concerns raised by Delhi Minister Atishi about the well-being of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and CM Arvind Kejriwal, alleging a weight loss of 4.5 kg in 12 days since his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case, Tihar jail sources have refuted these claims. According to them, Kejriwal’s weight has remained consistent at 65 kg since his arrival on Monday. Atishi criticized officials aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), casting doubt on their reliability.

Atishi said, “Kejriwal is severely diabetic. His sugar levels are monitored through the day and he has to take insulin injections, medicines and food. Diabetes affects kidney, nervous system, etc. If sugar levels fall below 50, there is a threat to life. Ideally, it should not fall below 80… In Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody, his sugar levels fell thrice, once to 46,”.

“Kejriwal has never let his health come in the way of working for the country, even fasting at Jantar Mantar and Sundarnagri. Ever since the BJP-ruled central government has arrested him, he has lost 4.5 kg in the past 12 days. Such rapid weight loss can create health complications. Even for healthy people, such rapid weight loss is worrisome,” she said.

Even, AAP MP Raghav Chadha shared his concerns over Kejriwal’s health.

Tihar jail sources contradicted the assertion, stating that the health condition of the Delhi CM was satisfactory. They noted that his weight remained consistent at 65 kg since his admission to Tihar. They added that his blood sugar levels were under control, and he had not encountered any health complications.

Additionally, they mentioned that he had a brief video call with his wife the previous afternoon, lasting approximately 1.5 minutes. They also confirmed that he was receiving home-cooked meals as mandated by the court, with the jail’s medical staff and administration keeping a close watch on his health.

However, Atishi dismissed the assertion made by Tihar officials, stating, “One cannot rely on officers affiliated with the BJP.”

Informing that Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to purported irregularities in the previously annulled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. He was transferred from the custody of the agency to a 14-day judicial custody at Tihar jail on Monday.
