13 suspects have been detained in connection with throwing stones at Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s convoy on Sunday, according to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). In Patna, stones were thrown at the Chief Minister’s cavalcade earlier on Sunday. When the event happened, Nitish Kumar wasn’t in the cavalcade.

The cavalcade, according to reports, was en route to Gaya for the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit on Monday, an official told the news agency. The official added that the incident occurred at around 5 pm at Sohdi Mode in the Gauri Chuk police station area when a road blockade was in place due to the death of a local man.

According to Patna District Magistrate Chandrasekhar Singh, “the demonstrators flung stones when they noticed the advance cavalcade of the chief minister, inflicting minor damage to three to four vehicles.” He also added that a police force was dispatched to the area and the throng was dispersed.

The district magistrate claims that “Police have already detained 11 persons after filing a complaint against 15 people. We are examining the CCTV material and will find the final four suspects shortly.”

The JD(U) is expected to approve Nitish Kumar’s recent “political manoeuvre” during meetings of the party’s national executive and national council early next month, a prominent office-holder said here on Sunday.

The meetings will take place here on September 3 and 4, according to Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan, national head of the JD(U).

He announced that the national executive meeting will take place on September 3 and that the national council meeting would follow a day later.
