World News Live: President Donald Trump on Friday signed into law a massive reconciliation package famously known as ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ that extends tax cuts and phases in reductions to Medicaid, marking a major legislative victory for his administration after months of challenging negotiations with Republicans on Capitol Hill.

The legislation was signed during a military family picnic at the White House held to celebrate Independence Day. The president and his aides had long targeted the Fourth of July as the deadline for getting the bill on his desk—a goal that seemed uncertain just days before.

“We made promises, and it’s really promises made, promises kept, and we’ve kept them,” Trump said while addressing attendees from the balcony overlooking the South Lawn. “This is a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy. And I have to say, the people are happy.”

World News Live: Close Votes in Senate and House for ‘Big Beautifull Bill’

The Senate passed its version of the bill early Tuesday morning, with Vice President Vance casting the tie-breaking vote after a 50-50 split. Three Republican senators voted against the legislation.

The House followed suit on Thursday afternoon, passing the bill without making any changes after an intense hours-long push to persuade several holdouts during a procedural vote. The final tally in the House was 218-214, with two Republicans voting against the measure.

World News Live: Hamas Agrees to Ceasefire Framework, Paving Way for Gaza Peace Talks

In a significant development toward ending months of conflict in Gaza, Hamas announced on Friday that it had “submitted a positive response” to a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire with Israel, raising hopes for a breakthrough after repeated failed attempts.

“Hamas has submitted a positive response to the mediators, and the movement is fully prepared to immediately enter into a round of negotiations regarding the mechanism for implementing this framework,” the group said in a statement.

Israel had earlier accepted the US-sponsored framework, setting the stage for both sides to engage in final, detailed negotiations before a formal ceasefire is reached.

In a matter of hours, the region received months’ worth of rain, with central Kerr County recording at least 10 inches (25 centimeters) overnight. The downpour triggered the flash flooding of the Guadalupe River, submerging roads and trapping residents.
