PM Modi congratulated Malaysia’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Anwar Ibrahim on his election as Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Malaysia’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Anwar Ibrahim on his election as Prime Minister and stated that he looks forward to working with him to strengthen the India-Malaysia enhanced strategic partnership.

PM Modi stated on Twitter, “Congratulations on your election as Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri @anwaribrahim. I am looking forward to working with you to further strengthen India-Malaysia Enhanced Strategic Partnership.”

Earlier today in a statement, Palace declared that Anwar Ibrahim will be the next Prime Minister. It further added that this decision was made after King conducted conversations with other rulers in a special gathering of nation’s nine state monarchs.

Anwar Ibrahim has been sworn in as Malaysia’s new Prime Minister. As per media reports, after considering the views of the Malay rulers. His Majesty has agreed to designate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister.

Ibrahim’s elevation to the position of Malaysian Prime Minister follows his dismissal as Deputy Prime Minister in 1998 over charges of sodomy and misuse of authority. Malaysia’s new government is likely to be established five days after a national election.
