V Muraleedharan, the minister of state for external affairs and parliamentary affairs on Thursday, paid a visit to the chancery and spoke with embassy staff members while on his first trip to Djibouti.
The Hon’ble MEA visited the Chancery and talked with Embassy personnel, according to a tweet from the Indian embassy in Djibouti.
The minister began his first trip to the country in the Horn of Africa on Wednesday. It is India’s first ministerial visit since its resident embassy in Djibouti was established.

From September 21–22, MoS Muraleedharan will be in Djibouti on an official visit, marking his first trip there.
According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, the MoS will meet with the Prime Minister of Djibouti, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, and have discussions with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Foreign Minister, and other dignitaries about bilateral, regional, and global issues of shared interest.
The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies (IDS) of Djibouti will also sign an agreement on the visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports, according to the press release.
The MoS will also communicate with the Indian community and Djiboutian authorities.
Warm and cordial ties that are rooted in shared historical and cultural experiences bind India and Djibouti. In 2015, Djibouti provided unprecedented assistance in the evacuation of Indian nationals from Yemen’s war-torn country (Operation Rahat).
India evacuated almost 5,600 individuals from Yemen as part of Operation Rahat. The Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels were at war in 2015.
Djibouti is home to a sizable Indian population. The visit is anticipated to give the bilateral ties between India and Djibouti more vigour.
