Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian PM Anthony Albanese held a bilateral meeting in Tokyo, Japan. The two leaders met in the backdrop of the Quad leaders summit 2022, which was held earlier in the day.
Earlier during the Quad leaders summit, PM Modi congratulated Antony Albanese and extended his best wishes for winning the elections. PM Modi stressed that Albanese’s presence among Quad leaders 24 hours after taking oath reflects the strength of Quad friendship and his commitment towards it.
Soon after Albanese’s claimed victory in the Australian elections, Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell tweeted that the incoming prime minister is no stranger to India as he had traveled to New Delhi as a backpacker in 1991 and led a parliamentary delegation in 2018.
Farrell added that during the campaign, Albanese committed to deepen India-Australia economic, strategic and people-to-people links.
Before meeting PM Modi, Anthony Albanese held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden and reaffirmed the friendship between the two nations. The two leaders discussed AUKUS, working together with regional partners and making comprehensive action on climate change a new pillar of their alliance.
