An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), on Wednesday, granted interim bail to Zartaj Gul, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PT), in connection with a case involving vandalism and riots in Gujranwala Cantt on May 9, as reported by media sources. Gul appeared before the ATC and requested bail from the court.
The ATC judge approved Zartaj Gul’s request for interim bail until April 18 and instructed her to cooperate with investigators. According to media sources, the interim bail was granted based on Gul’s written commitment to appear in the future.
Earlier on Monday, copies of the charge sheet were provided to Sheikh Rasheed, Zartaj Gul, and 59 other accused individuals by the ATC in Rawalpindi regarding the riots on May 9. The ‘PTI workers’ were involved in attacking military installations during the riots following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

ATC Judge Malik Aijaz Asif presided over the case, during which copies of charge sheets were provided to 59 accused individuals, including Sheikh Rasheed, Zartaj Gul, Ajmal Sabir, Sadaqat Abbasi, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Wasiq Qayyum, Taimur Masood, Akbar, and others, as reported by ARY News.
Following this, the court decided to formally charge the accused at the next hearing and instructed them to ensure their presence in court. In a separate matter, Gul was granted protective bail by the Peshawar High Court in January of this year.
In August of the previous year, Zartaj Gul faced arrest under suspicion of “corruption.” When the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) squad conducted a raid at her residence in an attempt to apprehend her, Zartaj Gul was not present at home, as reported by ARY News. Despite being summoned multiple times by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) regarding corruption allegations, the PTI leader never attended the meetings.
It is important to note that the PTI leader is charged with accepting “bribes” in order to award contracts for different development projects at a reduced cost to her “front men,” ARY News reported.
