'Development, development, development,' Manik Saha says after taking oath as Tripura's new chief minister

Manik Saha stated on Sunday that as Tripura’s next Chief Minister, his first priority will be to continue the development work begun by the BJP-led state government and to improve the state’s peace and order situation.

Saha delivered the remarks after Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party named the 69-year-old as chief minister in a surprising turn of events on Saturday, after Biplab Kumar Deb was forced to resign from the state’s top job barely a year before the Tripura Assembly elections.

While the new chief minister did not explain why he felt the state’s law and order situation needed to be strengthened, especially after his predecessor Deb boasted of reducing serious and political crimes, he did say he would work to develop the state under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidelines.

“Under Biplab Deb ji’s leadership, the state has advanced. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we will work to continue the work, work for the people, and bring progress… Development, development, development, development. These tasks will be completed by me. “I will work to maintain strong law and order,” Saha stated.
