Faced with the prospect of being disqualified from the assembly, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his ally Congress are shifting their MLAs, a common strategy for avoiding attempts to poach lawmakers and bring down governments.
Mr Soren and the MLAs were seen getting on buses with luggage and leaving after a meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence. They eventually arrived in Khunti, about 30 kilometres from Ranchi, and were housed in government bungalows.
Before they left, Hemant Soren held a marathon third round of a meeting of the ruling alliance’s legislators to devise a strategy to deal with the emerging scenario. According to sources, the group that was relocated includes 43 MLAs.

“If necessary, all ruling MLAs will be sent to a single location. All MLAs have arrived at the Chief Minister’s residence with their luggage in order to attend the critical meeting that is currently taking place “PTI quoted a leader as saying.
Governor Ramesh Bais is expected to send Mr Soren’s disqualification as an MLA to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday, according to PTI, citing sources in his office.
On Thursday, the Election Commission sent its decision to Governor Bais on a request that Mr Soren be disqualified as an MLA for violating electoral rules by granting himself a mining lease. The petitioner in the case, the BJP, had sought Mr Soren’s disqualification.

“Our opponents are abusing constitutional institutions because they are unable to match us politically. But we’re not concerned… They’re the ones who gave us the chair… Do what you can; my service to my people will never end “On Friday, Mr. Soren tweeted.
Congress has stated that Mr. Soren will be the consensus candidate. “Our coalition is steadfast. We will support Hemant Soren as Chief Minister “Congress MLA Alamgir Alam stated.
While Mr. Soren is not barred from running for office, the BJP has called for new elections and has asked the Chief Minister to resign “on moral grounds.”

Today, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey tweeted: “Some MLAs arrived in Chhattisgarh at 2 a.m., according to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) sources. Most MLAs are hesitant to go and are awaiting orders from senior JMM leader Basant Soren. MLAs have buses parked in Ranchi.”
In the 81-member Assembly, the ruling coalition has 49 MLAs. The largest party, the JMM, has 30 MLAs, the Congress has 18, and Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has one. The BJP, the main opposition party, has 26 MLAs. Minister Mithilesh Thakur claimed that the ruling coalition has “50 MLAs (including the Speaker, which can go up to 56”) and that the BJP taught them “resort politics.”
