In the midst of the ongoing ground subsidence in the Joshimath area of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, the Prime Minister’s office announced on Sunday that a high-level meeting will be held this afternoon.

“Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. P K Mishra will undertake a high-level review in the PMO today afternoon with the Cabinet Secretary, top officials of the Government, and members of the National Disaster Management Authority,” stated an official announcement. Joshimath District Officials will also be present through video conference on this topic.

According to the press release, senior officials from Uttarakhand will also participate in the evaluation through video conference.

The conference is being organised in response to the fissures that have appeared in the region in recent days.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the formation of a coordination committee at the government level led by the Additional Chief Secretary and at the local level led by Commissioner Garhwal for the assistance, relief, and rescue of those affected by the Joshimath landslide.

Joshimath, also known as Jyotirmath, is the winter residence of Lord Badrinath, whose idol is transported each winter from the main Badrinath temple to the Vasudeva temple at Joshimath. Joshimath is regarded by Hindus as an important pilgrimage place in the country.
