Train Selfie Leads to Phone Snatcher's Arrest and Resolves Tragic Death Mystery

A thief’s attempt to capture a selfie on a moving train led to his apprehension and the resolution of a mysterious death case in Maharashtra’s Kalyan.

In a twist of fate, a thief’s attempt to capture a selfie video aboard a moving train in Maharashtra’s Kalyan not only led to his own arrest but also unraveled the mystery behind a tragic death. Identified as Akash Jadhav, the thief inadvertently recorded himself while filching a mobile phone from a fellow passenger, ultimately exposing his criminal act.

The stolen phone, initially belonging to Prabhas Bhange, a Pune resident, held vital clues to the perplexing demise of its owner. Mr. Bhange, an employee at a bank, met a tragic end after falling from a train at Vitthalwadi railway station on the midnight of March 25, while en route to Pune following Holi celebrations.

The breakthrough in the investigation came when the Kalyan Railway Police stumbled upon the viral video capturing Jadhav in the act. Subsequent questioning of the apprehended thief shed light on the sequence of events leading to Mr. Bhange’s fatal fall.

According to railway police officer Pandharinath Kande, Jadhav’s brazen theft of Mr. Bhange’s mobile prompted the latter to pursue the culprit. In a desperate bid to reclaim his phone, Mr. Bhange attempted to disembark from the moving train, tragically resulting in his demise.

“The victim, traveling from Kalyan to Pune, encountered Jadhav at Vitthalwadi station, where the phone snatch occurred. In his effort to retrieve his mobile, Mr. Bhange met with the fatal fall,” explained Mr. Kande.

The revelation not only exposed Jadhav’s involvement in the theft but also elucidated the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bhange’s untimely death, previously shrouded in mystery. With a case registered against the accused, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unforeseen consequences of criminal actions and the ripple effects they can have on unsuspecting victims.
