Karan Johar Shares Student Of The Year 3 Sneak-Peek At CIFF

As fans eagerly await further updates on Student of the Year 3, Karan Johar’s collaboration with Reema Maya underscores the industry’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent and pushing creative boundaries.

Filmmaker Karan Johar recently unveiled exciting details about the much-anticipated Student of the Year 3 (SOTY 3) during his appearance at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh. In a candid discussion about his upcoming projects, Johar shed light on the web series adaptation of the popular SOTY franchise, offering intriguing insights into the creative process behind the series.

Revealing that Reema Maya, acclaimed for her work on the renowned Nocturnal Burger, will helm the digital version of Student of the Year, Johar emphasized his desire for Maya to infuse the series with her unique voice and vision. “It will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series,” explained Johar, highlighting his commitment to nurturing emerging talent in the industry.

Reema Maya, an international award-winning writer-director and co-founder of the production house Catnip, boasts an impressive portfolio of work that has garnered acclaim on the global stage.

Her short film Counterfeit Kunkoo received praise at the Sundance Film Festival 2018, showcasing her talent for crafting compelling narratives. With her latest offering, Nocturnal Burger, earning accolades at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, Maya continues to captivate audiences with her distinctive storytelling prowess.

Student of the Year 3, which marks the third installment of the popular franchise, has generated considerable buzz since its inception. Last year, Harpers Bazaar reported that Shanaya Kapoor is set to headline the film, marking her highly-anticipated debut in the industry.

While Kapoor was initially slated to make her debut in Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak, alongside Laksh Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada, the project has since been shelved. Kapoor’s subsequent debut in the Malayalam film Vrushabha, starring Mohanlal, also faced a similar fate.

Despite the anticipation surrounding SOTY 3, the filmmakers have yet to make an official announcement regarding the web series, including the full cast and crew lineup. The original Student of the Year film, released in 2012, and its sequel, SOTY 2, which premiered in 2019, have enjoyed immense success, making the upcoming installment a highly-anticipated addition to the franchise.

As fans eagerly await further updates on Student of the Year 3, Karan Johar’s collaboration with Reema Maya underscores the industry’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent and pushing creative boundaries. With Maya’s distinct directorial vision and Kapoor’s anticipated debut, SOTY 3 promises to deliver an engaging and unforgettable viewing experience for audiences worldwide.
