National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, who is on a two-day visit to Moscow, met with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev in Moscow on Wednesday, focusing on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
According to a Russian readout, the two sides discussed bilateral security cooperation as well as topical issues on the regional and international agenda.
“The two sides agreed to continue the dialogue between the two Security Councils, emphasising the progressive development of the Russian-Indian special and privileged strategic partnership,” according to a Russian statement.
India has underlined that diplomacy and communication are the only ways to end the Ukrainian situation.
Despite growing unease from various Western powers, India has expanded its imports of discounted crude oil from Russia in recent months.
Since April, India’s imports of crude oil from Russia have increased more than 50 times, accounting for 10% of all petroleum purchased from outside.
Denis Alipov, the Russian ambassador, stated last month that bilateral trade between the two nations is booming and that Russia respects India for resisting efforts to isolate it in international fora.
Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, India has also communicated with a number of major nations, including Russia.
By placing a “technical team” in its embassy in Kabul in June, India restored its diplomatic representation there.
After the Taliban took over in August, India withdrew its representatives from the embassy over worries for their safety.
It has been reported that the discussions included the state of Afghanistan and various aspects of bilateral strategic cooperation. India has yet to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
