Monkeypox (MPX) was first found in 1958 in colonies of monkeys kept for research, hence getting its name ‘Monkeypox.’
As Monkeypox has become an epidemic, the union ministry of health, on Wednesday, issued dos and don’ts to prevent the spread, as cases in India rose to eight.
During the ongoing monsoon session of the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister said, “There is no need to panic, with the help of the state government, an awareness campaign is being run.
A task force has been formed under the chairmanship of a member of NITI Aayog on behalf of the Government of India.
Dos-
- Quarantine and Isolate the infected person from others so that the spread of disease is minimized.
- Constant use of hand sanitiser post touching any object or washing your hands with soap.
- Covering the mouth with a mask and if dealing with a patient usage of disposable gloves is necessary.
- To sanitise your surroundings, use disinfectants.
Don’ts- - People who have contracted the virus, as well as suspected patients, should not be ostracized. Also, disregard any rumour or disinformation.
- Avoid socializing or going to any public event if any symptoms of the disease arise.
- Avoid sharing linen, bedding, clothing, and towels with monkeypox-positive people.
- Do not wash soiled linen or laundry from ill and non-infected people together.
