On Friday afternoon, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a high-level meeting to discuss preparations for this year’s Amarnath Yatra.

Shah will conduct a series of meetings to assess readiness, including security and other factors related to the yearly pilgrimage. The meeting on Friday will begin at 4 p.m. The meeting will be attended by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Deka, Central Reserve Police Force Director General SL Thaosen, and officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as those from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and administration.

Following the success of the G20 tourism working group conference in Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is busy preparing for the impending Amarnath Yatra, despite intelligence reports of likely attempts to disrupt the pilgrimage by Pakistan-based terror organisations.

The annual pilgrimage to Amarnath, a sacred cave shrine located at a height of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, will begin on July 1 and will go until August 31.
