Congress MP Gogoi Advocates for Caste Census in Assam, Following Bihar & Rajasthan

In Chhattisgarh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed the party’s commitment to conducting a caste census if re-elected to power in the state, mirroring the Bihar model.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has advocated for a caste-based census in Assam, following the example of Bihar and Rajasthan, to ensure that all backward communities in the state receive “dignity” and “justice.” Gogoi made this statement during a public event organized by a prominent Tai Ahom youth organization.

In a post on social media, Gogoi emphasized the need for a caste census in Assam, similar to the models adopted in Bihar and Rajasthan, to address the concerns of SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities and ensure their fair treatment and representation.

The Assam Congress shared a video of Gogoi addressing the issue during a public speech at General Field in Golaghat, Assam, where he called for a caste-based census.

The move for a caste-based census gained momentum when Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that the state would conduct such a census, following the Bihar model. CM Gehlot explained that the decision was in line with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s advocacy for a caste census system.

The caste-based survey in Bihar was released on October 2 by the Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government. CM Gehlot emphasized the importance of caste-based data for the effective implementation of social security measures and targeted schemes for different castes in the state.

In Chhattisgarh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed the party’s commitment to conducting a caste census if re-elected to power in the state, mirroring the Bihar model.
