According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital remained in ‘Very bad’ category, with an AQI of 317.
This morning, AQI in the Delhi University region was 348 (extremely bad), whereas the air quality at IIT Delhi was 273.
With an AQI of 323, the Delhi Airport Terminal fared no better (very poor). Similarly, Noida fell into the ‘bad category,’ with an AQI of 372. Meanwhile, Gurugram was classified as ‘poor,’ with an AQI of 276.
Air Quality Index is a mechanism for efficiently expressing air quality status to people in simple words. It converts complicated pollution-related air quality data into a single number (index value), nomenclature, and colour.
Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is regarded excellent, while 100 to 200 is considered moderate, 200 to 300 is considered bad, 300 to 400 is considered extremely poor, and 400 to 500 or more is deemed severe.
