The first Justice JS Verma Memorial Lecture will be conducted on 18th September at Manas Bhawan in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The event has been organised by Justice Verma Memorial Committee, whose chairman is Rajya MP and Senior Advocate Vivek Tankha, in collaboration with the Bar Council of India, State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, and Bar Association of Jabalpur.

H.E Jagdeep Dhankar, the Vice President of India will be the chief guest at this event in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Governor H.E Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Supreme Court judge Justice SK Kaul will deliver the lecture in the presence of Justice JK Maheshwari and Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh Justice Ravi Malimath will be the guest of honour.

Justice Jagdish Sharan Verma served as the 27th Chief Justice of India from 25th March 1997 to 18th January 1998. He was the chairman of NHRC from 1999 to 2003 and chairman of the Justice Verma Committee, whose report led to amendments to criminal law after the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case.

Justice Verma was known as the face of judicial activism in India for his judicial innovation through landmark judgments. Some of his landmark judgments are the Vishakha Judgment on expanded protection of fundamental rights for working women, Ayodhya, and AFSPA judgments.

This lecture will be a fitting tribute to an eminent jurist.
