Odisha train tragedy: Ten-member CBI team visits site of accident in Balasore

A 10-member CBI team reached the site of the accident in Odisha’s Balasore on Tuesday to probe into the triple train accident.

Odisha train tragedy: A day after Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Railway Board had recommended a CBI probe into the Odisha train tragedy, a 10-member CBI team reached the site of the accident in Odisha’s Balasore on Tuesday. The triple train clash involving two express trains and one goods train claimed around 275 passengers’ lives and injured more than 1000.

This comes after Vaishnaw said that the accident took place due to a “change in electronic interlocking.” Electronic interlocking facilitates the safe movement of trains through an arrangement of tracks. The Railways is also conducting a probe into the accident.

The accident involved the Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Odisha’s Balasore.

Meanwhile, trains have started running on the tracks where the accident took place following the restoration work. The central and the state government have also announced compensation for the victims of the accident.
