Odisha Train Accident: PM Modi ensures ‘guilty will not be spared’

PM Modi said that directions have been issued to investigate the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore, whoever is found guilty will face severe punishment.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that directions have been issued to investigate the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore, which killed over 260 passengers, and that whoever is found guilty will face severe punishment.

PM Modi made the remarks during a visit to Fakir Mohan Hospital in Balasore, where some of the passengers injured in the three-train accident on Friday were being treated. “It was a traumatic incident.” The government will not be able to bring those who died [in the accident] back, but it is with their families in their grief.

This is a serious incident for the government. The government will spare no expense in treating those who have been injured. “Instructions have been issued for all types of investigations, and whoever is found guilty will not be spared,” Prime Minister Modi stated.

“I also thank the Government of Odisha and all the administration officers here who tried to help the people with limited resources,” he said, adding that the Railway is working on track restoration.

He also thanked the people of Odisha for coming forward to assist crash survivors, whether by donating blood or assisting with the rescue operation.

After reviewing the situation at the scene of the June 2 incident, in which at least 261 people were killed and over 1,000 were injured, the Prime Minister paid a visit to the hospital.

PM Modi flew down to the crash site in an IAF chopper at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Balasore district and was briefed on the train accident by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
