The world wrestling championships in 2022 will be hosted in Belgrade, Serbia, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi complimented Bajrang Punia, an accomplished wrestler from India, for winning a bronze medal.

At the current World Wrestling Championships 2022, renowned Indian wrestler and Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia defeated Puerto Rican wrestler Sebastian C Rivera to win the bronze medal match.

“They are a source of pride for us. Congratulations to @Phogat Vinesh and @BajrangPunia for winning bronze medals in the men’s wrestling competition at the world championships in Belgrade. Bajrang earns his fourth medal, and Vinesh becomes the first Indian woman to win two medals on this stage “PM Modi tweeted.

He outpointed Rivera 11-9 in the fight. The Commonwealth Games gold medalist wrestler produced an incredible comeback to win the match. Based on his opponent’s scores and VPO1-Points, he prevailed.

Punia trailed by 0-6 at the start of the game and appeared hopeless. But after that, he clawed his way back into the game, scoring 11 points while allowing his rival to only add three.

After losing to John Michael Diakomihalis of the USA 10-0 in the quarterfinal, he returned to medal contention by virtue of victory by superiority (VSU).

India has already won two medals at the current World Wrestling Championships.

Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler and gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games 2022, defeated Swedish champion Emma Malmgren to win the women’s 53 kg division bronze medal at the current World Wrestling Championships 2022 in Belgrade on Wednesday.

The Swedish opponent was defeated 8-0 by the three-time CWG gold medallist.

The championships began on September 10 and will finish on September 18.
