In connection with the West Bengal Teachers Recruitment Scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Monday that it has attached properties totaling Rs 48.22 crore, including 35 bank accounts with a balance of Rs 7.89 crore and 40 immovable properties valued at Rs 40.33 crore.

A bank balance, a farmhouse, great land in Kolkata, and apartments are among the items that are linked. Former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close friend Arpita Mukherjee, who is currently being held in custody for their alleged involvement in the multi-billion dollar teacher recruitment scam at the West Bengal School Service Commission, have been discovered to “beneficially own” the attached properties (WBSSC).

According to the ED, “a number of the attached properties were held in the name of dummy businesses and corporations and people acting as a proxy for Partha Chatterjee,” adding that “the attached properties are discovered to be beneficially owned by Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee.”

Partha Chatterjee and his close friend Arpita Mukherjee were previously detained by the ED on July 23 following search operations at multiple locations connected to the teacher recruitment scam.

Prior to this, Partha Chatterjee was held by the ED from July 23 to August 5.

“With this latest attachment, the case’s total attachment seizure amounts to Rs 103.10 crore.”
