Amit Shah to Present Jammu and Kashmir Bills in Rajya Sabha Today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be introducing the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Rajya Sabha today afternoon

On the eighth day of the Winter Session of Parliament, significant legislative businesses are expected to unfold in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha, following their earlier passage in the Lok Sabha.

The House agenda includes the presentation of reports from the Standing Committee on Water Resources, with a focus on ‘Demands for Grants (2023-24)’ from the Ministry of Jal Shakti – Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation. Guman Singh Damor is expected to make these presentations.

Furthermore, the session will witness ministers providing statements on the status of the implementation of various reports. Several private members are also expected to seek leave to introduce Bills.

In a notable parliamentary development, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sushil Kumar Modi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Wilson, and Telugu Desam Party MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar will present copies of seven reports from the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law, and Justice. These reports cover a range of topics, including the functioning of virtual courts, demands for grants for various departments, and the appointment of notaries.

Sunita Duggal, BJP MP, is slated to present a report showcasing further actions taken by the Government on the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology regarding the suspension of telecom services and internet impacts.

Later in the day, BJP MPs Baburam Nishad and Satish Chandra Dubey will lay a copy of the Thirty-Third Report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, focusing on the action taken by the Government on observations/recommendations concerning “BIS-Hallmarking and Jewellery.”

In Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari and Janata Dal (U) Aneel Prasad Hegde will present two reports from the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources for consideration.

The day promises robust parliamentary discussions, addressing legislative priorities and reporting on key issues impacting various sectors.
