Nepal President Poudel is airlifted to India on 19 April as he complained of shortness of breath, said his press aide. He will be admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). This was the second time when president Poudel is rushed to the hospital in April.

The press adviser to the President, Kiran Pokharel said “The President was medevacked to India in an air ambulance around 10.30 am on April 19.”

Nepal President Poudel was accompanied by his son Chintan Paudel to AIIMS.

What happened to Nepal President Poudel?

Poudel was taken to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj after he allegedly fainted on April 18. As per the news agency ANI, a presidential official confirmed that Poudel was diagnosed with a lung infection and his oxygen level had fallen.

“He fainted earlier in the morning and was rushed to the Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital. In yesterday’s follow-up it was found that he had an infection on his lungs,” an official at the President’s Office confirmed.

After undergoing four days of treatment in Kathmandu, Nepal President Paudel was discharged from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj on April 5.

As per the hospital’s official statement, Poudel complained of stomach ache, after which he was rushed to the hospital.

Ram Chandra Poudel was sworn in as Nepal’s president on 13 March 2023. Poudel, a member of the Nepali Congress was elected as the new president of, in a relief to the fragile coalition government headed by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda. 

PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy PM, and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, among other leaders, visited the president at the hospital.

On 18 April, a cabinet meeting was conducted and decided that a Government official’s team led by the health secretary will be deployed, to facilitate his treatment. The team will submit a report after assessing the President’s health condition. Further decisions will be taken as per the official report, said a minister.
