Canada is determined to exclude Huawei from its 5G mobile network. On Thursday, Canada’s industry minister François-Philippe Champagne stated that the wireless operators will not be permitted to use Huawei equipment in their high-speed 5G networks, joining a growing list of countries opposing the firm. He further stated that the move will ensure the safety and security of Canadians online.
Several other nations like the UK, US, Australia, and New Zealand have already banned Huawei. Canada was the only member left of the Five Eyes group that did not ban or restrict Huawei from being used in its 5G networks.
Speaking about the move, Champagne stated that it is about establishing a framework to safeguard our infrastructure. Calling it a proper decision in a 5G era, he justified that we are increasingly reliant on our networks in our daily lives.
ZTE Corp, one of China’s largest tech corporations and a state-owned enterprise, is also set to be banned by Canada.
The launch of 5G, or fifth-generation, networks would give customers quicker Internet access and massive data capacity to meet the insatiable demand. Virtual reality, hardcore gaming, and driverless automobiles will all become more common as more items connect to the internet.
