AIADMK Discontinues Ties with BJP

“In today’s meeting, this resolution was passed unanimously that AIADMK will break all ties with the BJP and NDA alliance,” AIADMK leader Munuswamy affirmed.

In a decisive move, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has adopted a unanimous resolution, formally discontinuing all affiliations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as of Monday (25th September).

AIADMK leader KP Munuswamy articulated the party’s rationale behind this decision, citing continuous unwarranted comments from the state BJP leadership over the past year regarding their former leaders, General Secretary EPS (K Palaniswami), and AIADMK members.

“In today’s meeting, this resolution was passed unanimously that AIADMK will break all ties with the BJP and NDA alliance,” AIADMK leader Munuswamy affirmed.

Munuswamy further alleged that the state BJP leadership had deliberately targeted former Chief Minister Jayalalitha and Annadurai, leading to this unequivocal severance.

“The state leadership of the BJP in the NDA alliance has been purposely attacking the AIADMK Party, former CM, and leaders Annadurai and Jayalalitha. BJP State leadership also criticized the AIADMK conference, which was held at Madurai on August 20. This hurts cadres of AIADMK,” Munuswamy added.

The pivotal meeting took place at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai, attended by AIADMK Party Secretaries, District Secretaries, Parliament Members, and Assembly Members.

Relations between AIADMK and BJP had been strained for several months, with AIADMK’s announcement on September 18 that the BJP was no longer their ally, citing alleged violations of the “alliance dharma” by BJP State President Annamalai. Additionally, AIADMK leaders expressed strong disapproval of Annamalai’s remarks concerning Annadurai and Periyar.

Both AIADMK and BJP were frequently engaged in social media exchanges, and leaders from both parties refrained from discussing the alliance publicly.

On September 22, top AIADMK leaders, including C V Shanmugam, Thambidurai, SP Velumani, Thangamani, KP Munusamy, and Natham Viswanathan, held discussions with BJP leaders in Delhi. While details of the meeting remained undisclosed, insider reports suggested that the outcome was not favorable for AIADMK.
