On Tuesday, the short-range ballistic missile Prithvi-II was successfully launched from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

The Prithvi-II missile, a well-established system, has been an important element of India’s nuclear deterrence. The missile hit its target with pinpoint accuracy. According to a Defense Ministry announcement, the user training launch successfully confirmed all operational and technical aspects of the missile.

As part of a user training trial, the indigenously produced nuclear-capable missile was also successfully test-fired at night.

The missile is a tried-and-true device that can hit targets with pinpoint accuracy. It has a striking range of around 350 kilometres.

The Prithvi II missile, which was inducted into India’s Strategic Forces Command in 2003, was developed by DRDO under India’s famous Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
