A group of Kashmiri Hindus protested on Wednesday in the Budgam area of Jammu and Kashmir in response to the Tuesday assassination of a member of their community.
A Kashmiri Pandit named Sunil Kumar, was shot by militants on Tuesday in Shopian, where he lost his life, and his brother Pintu Kumar suffered injuries. In a Shopian apple orchard near Chotipora, the terrorists started shooting at the people.
In addition to inspiring fury in the valley, the tragedy has prompted condemnation from political leaders from all parties.
On Tuesday, the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharash Samiti (KPSS) urged the community to leave the valley and relocate to cities with a lower risk of terrorist attacks, such as Jammu and Delhi.
The terrorists have made it obvious that they intend to kill every Kashmiri Pandit in the Kashmir valley, according to KPSS chief Sanjay Tickoo, after yet another horrific attack on Kashmiri Pandits.
KPSS chief Sanjay Tickoo said in a statement to a media outlet: “For the past 32 years, this has been happening. The government has not been successful in ensuring the security of minorities, particularly Kashmiri Pandits. How much longer will we suffer unnatural deaths? It’s enough already.”
Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, denounced the assassination of the Kashmir Pandit and warned that terrorists who committed the heinous crime will not escape punishment.
“I am beyond words saddened by the heinous terrorist attack on Shopian’s citizens. My thoughts are with Sunil Kumar’s family. praying for the injured to heal quickly. Everyone should express their greatest criticism of the attack. Terrorists who committed the heinous act will not get off easy, Sinha said.
Omar Abdullah, the head of the National Conference, decried the murder and said: “Today’s news out of South Kashmir is incredibly terrible. A path of death and pain has been left in the wake of an accident and a militant attack. Without reservation, I denounce the terrorist attack in Shopian that resulted in the deaths of Sunil Kumar and Pinto Kumar. My sympathies go out to the family.
Altaf Thakur, a BJP spokesperson, said: “Condemn vehemently the heinous terrorist attack in Shopian that resulted in the death of Sunil Kumar and the injury of another member of the minority community. There is no religion in terror. Killers ought to be put in jail.”
