A new petition filed by the Hindu side seeks ban on the use of loudspeakers for Azaan at the Shahi Idgah Masjid. The petition has been filed at Mathura Court.
The petitioner, a Sanatani Hindu, claims that the use of loudspeakers for azan at the Idgah is a breach of his constitutional right.
The petition states that it is worth noting that Mathura’s Shahi Idgah Mosque sits near the Krishna Janmabhoomi, which is thought to be the Hindu deity Krishna’s birthplace.
The suit further claims that the Shahi Idgah is actually the Keshav Dev temple’s sanctum sanctorum, and therefore Azaan should not be chanted there.
Dinesh Kaushik, national treasurer of the All India Hindu Mahasabha, had previously submitted a plea with a local court in Mathura, stating that Keshav Dev Mandir was formerly located there, demanding permission to perform purifying rituals within the Shahi Idgah mosque.
In his suit, Kaushik also claims that the fundamental rights of those living near the Shahi Idgah Masjid are being violated and that this is happening while the principal battle over the property where the Idgah is located is ongoing.
Later, Kaushik urged that the District Magistrate should be given a directive prohibiting the reciting of Azan over loudspeakers.
