During his speech to the Indian diaspora community programme in Munich on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian democracy while addressing the “Emergency” that the government of Indira Gandhi proclaimed on June 25, 1975.
PM Modi in Munich spoke about how Indians have democracy written into their DNA in an electrifying setting.
He went on to say, “Today, June 26, is also recognized as the day that, 47 years ago, India’s democracy—which is ingrained in every Indian—was stomped and repressed. A stain on India’s vibrant democratic heritage was the emergency.”
He further claimed that attempts to keep that democracy hostage were made 47 years ago. However, Indians thwarted all of the machinations to do so.
“In a democratic manner, the Indian people responded to all plots to thwart democracy. No matter where you are, we Indians are proud of our democracy. India is the Mother of Democracy, according to every Indian ” Prime Minister remarked.
Indian diaspora in Germany has never gathered in such numbers since the epidemic. The majority of the attendees arrived dressed in formal wear.
They gave PM Modi a warm welcome at the hotel in Munich where he will be staying earlier in the day on Sunday.
As members of the Indian diaspora celebrated and waved their flags upon seeing the Prime Minister, the phrase “Bharat Mata ki Jai” echoed around the hotel grounds.
PM Modi landed in Munich today to take part in the G7 summit. There, he will meet with representatives from the G7 and its partner nations and have talks on topics including the environment, energy, and counterterrorism.
PM Modi will meet privately with the heads of several of the participating nations at the Summit.
However, MEA stated that in addition to taking part in the debates at the G7 including the environment, energy, food security, health, gender equality, and other topics, the PM will also attend a number of bilateral meetings off-camera.
The invitation to the G7 Summit continues India and Germany’s history of a solid and close relationship and frequent high-level political meetings.
